The Newfoundland breed is a large, well-balanced, muscular, strong, and elegant dog. The dog is reputable to have an outstanding temperament, good, courageous, intelligent and patient. They can become so attached to their owners and very devoted. This breed possesses natural livesaving abilities.

Color(s): solid black, brown, gray and white on several places. White base with black markings.

Coat: double-coated, flat, water-resistant, coarse, moderately long, and dense.

Characteristics and temperaments: The Newfoundland breed is a very gentle, calm, patient and dignified dog. They are mild with guests. This breed makes an excellent companion for children. Recognizing a dangerous situation, they may act to protect their family. Some males can be aggressive with other males.

Care: The coarse and double coat needs daily to weekly brushing. Bathe only when necessary. The undercoat sheds twice a year.

Training and activity: This giant and gentle dog tends to be lazy but it is best to involve him with regular exercise. He may act slowly due to his massive size. The dogs enjoy outdoors and like to get wet. Avoid long walks during younger age because they need the energy for growth. This breed is very sensitive to the voice of his owner. Training must be calm and consistent.
