Great Pyrenees Breed Information

The Great Pyrenees breed is elegant, beautiful, muscular and very large in size. It is also known as the Pyrenean Mountain Dog. He is devoted to his family, well-mannered, gentle and affectionate. Due to his size, you need plenty of room at home.

Breed Weight: 85 - 100 lbs.
Breed Height: 27 - 32 inches.

Color(s): white with markings of tan, grey, badger or reddish brown.
Coat: weather resistant and double-coat; undercoat is dense, fine and wooly while outercoat is longer, flat, thick, coarse and straight.
Characteristics and temperaments: The Great Pyrenees is usually calm and serious, gentle, devoted and somewhat stubborn and independent. He is a serious worker but also affectionate. This dog is very loyal and obedient and makes a good livestock guard. Male dogs may be aggressive with other dogs.
Care: Regular brushing will keep the coat in shape. Pay more attention especially when the dog sheds once a year.
Training and activity: This breed needs plenty of exercise to be happy and healthy. As long as it is regular, it doesn't need to be extensive and long. This dog loves to swim. Training Pyrenees requires consistency but is is quite sensitive to the trainer's voice.
