Collie Breed Information

The Collie breed is a smart and protective dog. The dog is very active and love to work. The sheepdog likes to live around people. His ears are three-quarters erect with the rest tipping forward. He is generally a great children companion, stubborn at times and reserve with strangers.
AKC Breed Group: Herding.
Breed Weight: 50 - 75 lbs.
Breed Height: 22 - 26 inches.

Color(s): tricolor, sable and white, blue merle and white.
Coat: Two types: rough or smooth and abundant. The undercoat is soft, furry and dense.
Characteristics and temperaments: The Collie is protective, sensitive, sweet and loyal. He can be suspicious to strangers but friendly with children. Socialization is required to introduce him to other household pets. He sometimes nip, especially as a puppy. He can be stubborn at times but it is usual.
Care: The coat should be brushed regularly. Bathe only when necessary. Pay special attention especially during shedding, which happens twice a year.
Training and activity: The dog is sensitive to the voice of his trainer. Training should be pleasant, consistent but not firm, otherwise he won't cooperate. As an intelligent dog, he can be trained for many purposes including rescue, guide and guard dog. Collie needs plenty of exercise to keep him healthy.
