The Australian Shepherd breed is robust, medium-sized, intelligent and very alert. The dog was originally bred to herd livestock. Serious about the job adds extra quality to this quick learner.

Breed Height: 18 - 23 inches.

Color(s): blue merle, red merle, black, red-all; white markings and/or tan points are acceptable.
Coat: straight to wavy, hair ranges from medium to long.
Characteristics and temperaments: Australian Shepherds are active, good natured, good with children, and other pets. They seldom quarrelsome. Puppies love to play and easy to train. They are excellent companions and quite workers.
Care: Relatively little attention and grooming should suffice. During shedding, more intensive combing is needed.
Training and activity: This breed is probably more appropriate for active owners, who can keep up with the dog activity. Not only that Australian Shepherd dog needs a lot of regular exercise, but also requires involvement in outdoor activities.
